Is It Expensive To Reface Your Cabinets?

So, you are ready to look into doing something about your kitchen or bathroom cabinets because you know that cabinets will make or break the look of a room. You have weighed your options for improving the look of your cabinets and have decided that refacing rather than replacing them makes the most sense.

The problem is, you aren't sure what how much refacing costs. The answer is, it varies.

Ok, So Is It Expensive Or Not?

It can be expensive, but it can also be very affordable depending on the options you choose, where you purchase your cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and whether you choose to do it yourself or hire a contractor.

Let's break it down a little further.

Options Can Make The Difference

The first thing that can impact the cost of refacing your cabinets is the material you choose. The choice of wood, MDF, or thermofoil for your doors and drawer fronts is a huge factor in how much it will cost.

Another thing to consider is the style of door you choose. Different styles cost different prices to make. For example, a shaker door doesn't cost the same as a cathedral style raised panel door.

Another thing to consider is whether you decide to finish the doors and drawer fronts yourself or order them already finished. It is possible to save money by ordering the doors stained or painted, or even primed and ready to paint.

Just keep in mind that there are multiple options that will cause the cost of your project to vary.

Not All Suppliers Are Created Equal

When you are purchasing your new cabinet doors and drawer fronts, pay attention to whether the supplier is also the manufacturer or not. There are many cabinet door companies out there but only a handful make their own product.

Many of the companies out there that sell cabinet doors purchase their doors from another company that manufactures doors. The companies that manufacture the doors can often (but not always - more on that in a moment) sell the doors for less which saves you money.

The other thing to look out for is that some companies have a higher price for doors, sometimes it's because it costs them more to make or buy, sometimes it's not. You just need to make sure that you compare pricing to get the best deal... and when you do, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. In other words, make sure that when comparing pricing that you have the same material, same style, same size rails and stiles, same square footage, etc. That way you know who is really the best deal for you.

Not to toot our own horn, but at Cabinet Door World we are the manufacturer and love passing on the cost savings to our customers. We feel confident in telling you that we offer some of the lowest pricing and highest quality you are going to find anywhere.
