Kitchen Trends 2019 - What's Hot (And What's Not)

Posted

We're halfway through the year now and summer is here. The weather is getting hot, and so are some of the styles we're seeing used in kitchen renovations this year.

If you find yourself unhappy with your current kitchen decor, never fear. We are here to tell you about some choices that are very in right now (and tell you what is definitely out or on it's way out).

So, let's dive right in!

1) All White Kitchens Are On The Way Out

Now we don't mean to hurt your feelings right away with our very first revelation, but it looks like all white kitchens are on the decline. This has been a very popular trend for a while but not anymore.

If you have a kitchen that is all white though, don't panic! You don't have to completely remodel to make it look trendy again.

All that is needed to make bring your kitchen into 2019 is to add some color. This does not have to be done by painting or replacing cabinets and fixtures. This can easily be done by adding colored furniture (such as bar stools) or by displaying brightly colored pots, pans, bowls, or dishes. Adding colored decorations will help as well.

2) Concrete Is Here To Save The Day

There is a style villain living in many kitchens today. Ok, that may be a bit melodramatic, but there is a style that has been a mainstay for years now that has overstayed its welcome. We are, of course, referring to granite countertops.

Granite countertops have been a common occurrence since the 1990s and, as a result, will now instantly date your kitchen. What should you do instead?

Industrial style countertops are now super trendy, particularly concrete. Besides being a stylish choice for your kitchen, concrete countertops have the added benefit of being fairly affordable.

3) Don't Like Concrete? Wood Is A Great Way To Go!

Concrete isn't the only thing that is hot right now. Wood, especially natural wood, is still a very popular trend that just seems to get even more popular.

People like to feel that connection to nature and wood helps to create that connection. It also helps to give your kitchen a more light feeling.

Where can you use wood in your kitchen? Everywhere! Wood countertops, especially butcher block countertops, are an extremely stylish and beautiful addition to any kitchen.

Natural wood looks great on cabinets and floors too. Wooden accents in the room? Yes, please! Wood in a kitchen is a trend we'll never be able to get enough of!

4) Matte Black, Not Stainless Steel

As beautiful as stainless steel can be (let's face it, nearly everyone loved this trend), it has become another quick way to say "My kitchen is just like everyone else's."

A beautiful (and currently very popular) alternative to stainless is matte black. This color choice is turning up everywhere. You'll find it on appliances, fixtures, and even the cabinets!

In fact, where the kitchen cabinets are concerned, matte finishes of just about any color are considered stylish right now.

5) A Style That's "Mint" For You

See what we did there? Mint green is a color that seems to be popping up a lot this year. And why not?

This color is light, airy, and is sure to bring a fresh feeling to your kitchen. After all, that's what mint does is it not? Seriously, you're not going to make us get cliche with this, are you? Fine. It will make your kitchen feel "minty fresh."

Adding mint green to your kitchen is a stylish way to lift the mood of anyone who enters.

6) A More Dramatic Approach

If bright colors are not your thing, that's ok. Dark colors for kitchens are definitely in!

This may be a place where you would consider making an exception for the granite countertops, but only the dark granite. Pairing dark colored countertops with dark cabinets is a style that is extremely popular right now.

Dark colors give you a more moody feeling and are a bold approach to kitchen design that we love!

7) Can't Pick Just One Color? Use Two!

One style that is very in is two-tone cabinets. When done right, this is a beautiful way to make your kitchen pop!

This design idea, while it may be intimidating for some people to embrace, will ultimately give the modern kitchen that you have been dreaming of without sacrificing the classic styles that you love.

Your new two-tone design may just make the kitchen your favorite room in the house and make you the envy of your neighbors!

8) So Many Gadgets

There are so many high tech offerings out there for any use you can think of that smart devices have pervaded every part of our lives. The kitchen is no different.

Make no mistake though, there are some really amazing pieces of tech that you can add to your kitchen design this year. From refrigerators with touch screens that allow you to see what's in your fridge without opening the door, coordinate schedules, look up recipes and have the directions read to you, to wifi enabled espresso makers and smart crock pots, there is something for every tech lover's kitchen.

The only thing that could make a kitchen more perfect is if it did the cooking itself, cleaned up after itself, and served us dinner without us having to do a thing! While we aren't to a place where the kitchen can do all that yet, the abilities of the available tech will make you feel as though it could.

9) Appliances As Statement Pieces

Speaking of interesting appliances, there are some very unique designs out there that are sure to bring that extra something to your kitchen you may not have even known you were missing!

These bold-colored, often vintage style appliances are a gorgeous addition that will make your kitchen stand out from the crowd. Premium pieces do come with a premium price tag though, and these statement appliances are certainly not the least expensive way to go.

Notwithstanding price, we are absolutely loving this option for updating your kitchen. If you don't mind spending a little extra to choose this option, we say go for it! You won't regret it.

10) Concealed Range Hoods

Nobody wants their range hood to be a focal piece in their kitchen right? After all, you have spent all this time and money making stylish choices with your two-tone cabinets, smart refrigerator, and statement oven. Who wants to let the hood to steal the show?

That is where concealed range hoods come in. This option will allow you to seamlessly integrate the hood into your design and allow your other design choices to shine.

This kitchen trend is huge right now and you can see why. When done right, this option looks beautiful in any kitchen.

11) Single Level Islands

You have a beautiful open concept from the kitchen to the living room. The last thing you want to do is obstruct the view or block light.

A single level island will make a beautiful addition to your kitchen that will allow you to have more counter space for working while still giving you the open feeling that you were going for in the first place. This is a style that we think you are going to love in your kitchen.

12) Ditch The Upper Cabinet, Use Open Shelving

One style that will give your kitchen a modern look without sacrificing a sense of comfort is to use open shelving. In fact, this is a very versatile look.

More and more people are opting for open shelving instead of upper cabinets because not only does it give you a more modern look, it also allows you to turn items that might otherwise be stored behind a closed cabinet door into showpieces alongside other decorative items.

Open shelving can be used in almost any design to add another touch of beauty and class to your kitchen.

Wrapping Up

While this is not a complete representation of everything that is hot this year, this list is a pretty good starting point and represents some of our favorite trends for 2019 kitchens.

We think that there is something on this list for everyone and hope that this gives you some inspiration to draw from as you are planning your next kitchen update.
