Refacing Your Kitchen Before The Holidays? You May Still Have Time!

Posted

It's that time of year again. This is the time of year when homeowners are trying to finish up projects in the home in time for the holidays... before the guests show up.

If you have been thinking about, or are already planning to reface your kitchen cabinets and impress your guests, now is the time to do it. The holidays don't wait, they have a tendency to arrive before we realize and are ready for them.

With this in mind, you don't want to wait until it's too late to get started. So, here are some things to keep in mind.

Planning Is Key

Refacing your kitchen does take significantly less time than remodeling it, but there are a number of factors to consider. For this reason, proper planning will reduce your stress and allow you to move forward on your project with a clear idea of what you are getting into.

There are a few areas specifically that you need to plan for.

The Actual Planning Time

When thinking about your project, make sure to consider the time it will take you to plan your project. This will, of course, include the time it takes to decide how you want your kitchen to look and the time it takes to do your research.

The research part of the planning should include time to pick the style you want to go with and where you want to order your products. Naturally, we prefer and recommend that you purchase from us, but no matter who you use it is important to understand how long the process will take.

Lead Times

When planning your project, this is absolutely a key piece of the puzzle. If you don't allow time for production and shipping into your project, you will find yourself scrambling to finish.

For us, current production times run about 15-20 business days for unfinished or 25-30 business days for finished. This does not include shipping time. So, if for example you order painted cabinet doors and drawer fronts today (October 4, 2019), they should ship around November 15 but it may be a few more days before you actually receive them.

You can see why understanding lead times is critical to the planning process.

Time To Complete The Project

It is true that a refacing project can be completed in just a few days, potentially even in a single weekend. However, There are factors to consider in this part of the planning as well.

The first thing to consider is whether you have hired a contractor or if you are doing the refacing yourself. If you are doing the refacing yourself, then depending on your comfort level and the scope of the project itself, you could find yourself only having time on the weekend, potentially resulting in multiple weekends to complete. Of course, if you are very comfortable with this type of work and it isn't a large kitchen, you could also find that you finish it in one weekend (especially if you have ordered your doors and drawer fronts pre-finished).

On the other hand, if you are hiring a contractor to help with the project, their availability and experience as well as the size of your project is going to determine how much time you should plan for.

Wrapping Up

There are many factors that will impact how much time you should plan for your project to take. Given the examples in this article, if you have already started or completed the research process (the fact that you are reading this blog post indicates there is a pretty good chance you are somewhere in the research process) it's possible that you could order your products in the next few days and still be finished with your project in time for the holidays.

We hope this article has given you some insight into planning for your refacing project, not only for the holidays but for any time time of year. Always give yourself plenty of time for planning, ordering, receiving the product, and completing your project and you will be able to pull off the holiday miracle makeover you have been dreaming of with time to spare!
