How To Measure
If you have existing doors and drawer fronts that you are replacing, you can often just measure those and order using those measurements. However, if you do not already have existing doors and drawer fronts to help find your measurements, you need to know how to measure accurately for your new doors and drawer fronts so that you get exactly what you need.
If you follow this guide, you’ll be able to provide the accurate measurements that will result in a perfect fit when placing your order.
Cabinet Doors
- Start by measuring the opening that you want the door to cover
- Determine how much overlay (the amount by which the door overlaps the face frame of the cabinet) you need
- Add the overlay to the dimensions of your door opening (for example, if you would like a 1/2″ overlay all the way around the perimeter of the door – double that overlay amount to get 1″, then add that 1″ to both the height and width of your door opening)
You can change the amount of overlay you would like to have as long as you make sure to leave enough room between any adjoining doors and drawer fronts so that they can still open and close.
Double Cabinet Doors
- Start by measuring the opening that you want the doors to cover
- Determine how much overlay (the amount by which the doors overlap the face frame of the cabinet) you need
- Add the overlay to the dimensions of your opening (for example, if you would like a 1/2″ overlay all the way around the perimeter of the door – double that overlay amount to get 1″, then add that 1″ to both the height and width of your door opening)
- Because this measurement is for double doors, you’ll take take your total width measurement and divide it by 2, then order to doors at your new total. (For example, if you have an opening of 30″ x 20″, you’ll add your overlay to get 31″ x 21.” You Will then divide the width by 2 to get 15.5″ x 21.” You will then order 2 doors at 15.5″ x 21″)
IMPORTANT: YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE TO MAINTAIN A 1/8″ GAP WHEN INSTALLING THESE DOORS. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY USING THE ADJUSTMENT FEATURE ON YOUR HINGES
REMEMBER: You can change the amount of overlay you would like to have as long as you make sure to leave enough room between any adjoining doors and drawer fronts so that they can still open and close.
Inset Cabinet Doors
- Start by measuring the door opening
- Subtract 3/16″ from both the height and width to get the door dimensions you need for ordering
IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE MEASURING FOR DOUBLE INSET DOORS, YOU’LL NEED TO SUBTRACT 3/16″ FROM THE WIDTH OF BOTH DOORS AS WELL AS 3/16″ FROM THE HEIGHT.
Drawer Fronts
- Start by measuring the opening that you want the drawer front to cover
- Determine how much overlay (the amount by which the drawer front overlaps the face frame of the cabinet) you need
- Add the overlay to the dimensions of your drawer opening (for example, if you would like a 1/2″ overlay all the way around the perimeter of the drawer – double that overlay amount to get 1″, then add that 1″ to both the height and width of your drawer opening)
You can change the amount of overlay you would like to have as long as you make sure to leave enough room between any adjoining doors and drawer fronts so that they can still open and close.
